Urea Topical
Indications
Urea Topical is used for:
Indicated for hyperkeratotic conditions such as, dry rough skin, xerosis, ichthyosis, skin cracks and fissures, dermatitis, eczema, psoriasis, keratoses, calluses
Adult Dose
Topical/Cutaneous
Ichthyosis and hyperkeratotic skin disorders
Apply 10-25% cream/lotion topically to affected skin twice daily.
Child Dose
Safety and efficacy not established
Renal Dose
Administration
Wash affected areas well, rinse off all traces of soap, dry, and apply sparingly.
Contra Indications
Individuals who have hypersensitivity to any of its components.
Precautions
Avoid application to moist or broken skin and near the eye.
Pregnancy-Lactation
Pregnancy category: C
Lactation: Unknown
Interactions
Increased excretion of lithium.
Side Effects
Side effects of Urea Topical :
May produce local irritations (including erythema, burning or pruritus) and oedema when applied to sensitive, moist or fissured skin.
Mode of Action
Applied topically, urea promotes hydration of keratin and mild keratolysis in dry skin. It increases water uptake by the stratum corneum and has an antipruritic effect.
