Indications
Povix Mouth Wash is used for:
Oral candidiasis
Adult Dose
Mouth/Throat
Oral candidiasis, Sore throat
Adults: Use undiluted or diluted with an equal volume of warm water.
Gargle or rinse with up to 10 ml for up to 30 seconds without swallowing.
Repeat up to four times daily for up to 14 consecutive days or as directed.
Child Dose
Children over 6 years of age: Use undiluted or diluted with an equal volume of warm water.
Gargle or rinse with up to 10 ml for up to 30 seconds without swallowing.
Repeat up to four times daily for up to 14 consecutive days or as directed.
Renal Dose
Administration
Pour 15ml of Povidone Iodine Gargle into the cup.
Swish part of the solution briefly in the mouth and spit it out.
Tilt your head backwards and gargle for a total of 30 seconds by swirling the liquid at the throat.
Spit out the solution.
Contra Indications
Hypersensitivity; prolonged use in patients with thyroid disorders or on lithium therapy. Premature neonates or neonates weighing <1.5 kg.
Precautions
Avoid contact with eyes; should not be used under occlusive dressing. Pregnancy, lactation; neonates.

Side Effects
Side effects of Povidone Iodine 1% Mouth-Wash/Gargle :
Local irritation and sensitivity (rare). Idiosyncratic mucosal irritation and hypersensitivity reactions rarely, may interfere with thyroid-function tests.
Mode of Action
Povidone-iodine is an iodophore with a powerful broad-spectrum germicidal activity against a wide range of bacteria, viruses, fungi, protozoa and spores. Microbicidal; oxidizes cell constituents; iodinates proteins and inactivates them.
